Resin Driveways in East Lothian

Resin driveways across East Lothian from a family surfacing firm established in 1952. Both resin bound and resin bonded finishes, laid on a sound, properly prepared base.

Resin driveway installation in East Lothian

For a resin driveway in East Lothian, E. Young Surfacing lays both resin bound and resin bonded surfaces, finished in a choice of aggregate colours. A family run surfacing firm based in Haddington since 1952, we know that resin only performs when the surface beneath it is sound, so we either lay a fresh base or check that your existing tarmac or concrete is fit before any resin goes down. The result is a clean, modern driveway with no loose stones to scatter.

What we surface

  • Resin bound driveways

Aggregate mixed with resin and trowelled smooth for a flat, permeable finish.

  • Resin bonded driveways

Resin laid first, then aggregate scattered on top for a tougher, textured grip.

  • Paths & patios

Resin paths and seating areas to match or complement the driveway.

  • Resin over existing surfaces

A fresh resin finish over sound existing tarmac or concrete.

  • Edgings & detailing

Clean edges and borders set so the surface finishes neatly.

How we lay it

  1. Survey & quote

We visit, check the existing surface and give you a free, no-obligation quote.

  2. Prepare the base

We lay a fresh base, or repair and prepare your existing one, so it is sound and dry.

  3. Set edges & levels

We set edgings and falls so the finished surface sheds water correctly.

  4. Mix & lay the resin

We mix the aggregate and resin and lay it by hand, trowelled or scattered to the chosen finish.

  5. Cure & finish

We let the surface cure, tidy the site and give you simple aftercare guidance.

Resin gives a clean, modern driveway with no loose stones to scatter across the path or get walked into the house, and a choice of aggregate colours to suit your property. There are two finishes, and the right one depends on the look you want and how the surface needs to drain. A resin bound surface is mixed and trowelled smooth, sits flat and lets water soak through; a resin bonded surface has the aggregate scattered over the resin for a tougher, textured grip. We lay both, and we will talk you through the difference rather than push one option.

Whichever finish you choose, resin needs a sound base. Where you have existing tarmac or concrete in good condition we can often lay over it; where the base is tired we prepare a fresh one first. If you would prefer a different look, we also lay monoblock driveways for a choice of colour and pattern, and tarmac driveways where value over a larger area matters most. Larger projects sometimes start with groundworks and site clearances.

To keep a resin driveway looking its best, clear leaves and debris, treat moss or algae before it builds up, and deal with spills promptly. Looked after, a properly laid resin surface stays smart for many years.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?

With a resin bound surface the aggregate is fully mixed with resin and trowelled out smooth, giving a flat, seamless finish that lets water drain through. With a resin bonded surface the resin is applied first and the aggregate is scattered on top, giving a rougher, more textured grip similar to a traditional tar and chip. We lay both and will explain which suits your driveway, the look you want and how it needs to drain.

How much does a resin driveway cost?

It depends on the size, whether you need a new base or have a sound surface to lay over, the finish you choose and access. Rather than guess, we give you a free, no-obligation quote after a site visit, with a clear breakdown of what is included.

Can you lay resin over my existing driveway?

Sometimes. If your existing tarmac or concrete is sound, level and well drained, we can often lay resin over it, which keeps the cost and disruption down. If it is breaking up or poorly drained, we will prepare a proper base first so the finished surface lasts. We will tell you honestly which your driveway needs.

Is a resin driveway slippery?

A well laid resin surface uses aggregate that gives grip, and a resin bonded finish in particular has a textured surface. As with any surface it can be greasy if left covered in moss or algae, so a little routine cleaning keeps it safe and looking well.

Do you lay resin paths and patios as well as driveways?

Yes. Alongside driveways we lay resin paths, seating areas and patios, and we can match the aggregate to your drive across East Lothian and the surrounding areas.
